Review

The iOS app store is chock full of games that offer short, momentary levels of entertainment; so when I came upon the game Bumpy Road, I wasn’t expecting much. Fortunately, I was wrong.

Bumpy Road is a small game about two characters taking a slow car ride. You must control the speed they drive by creating bumps in the road. The game started out very wonky in terms of car control, but turned out very enjoyable after some time to learn the controls. The game is split between two modes: Evergreen Ride and Sunday Trip. Evergreen Ride is basically a survival mode, and allows you to drive as long as you can until you run out of gas or fall in a pit. Sunday Drive has a set destination and wants to see how many points you can get in a certain time. Both modes are easy to play, but difficult to master, making the game very accessible to casual and hardcore gamers.

One thing you’ll notice as soon as you open the game is that there is an old-timey feel to everything. From the menu to the game itself, everything fits nicely together. The street and it’s background throughout the game screams simplicity. I absolutely loved the way this game looked, it is certainly one of the nicer designed games out there. The style of the game brings memories of the 20s, and the simplicity that comes from that period. Other than the simple style, the game is very easy to navigate. Unlike a lot of games, there’s very few buttons and menus. Want to play the game? Open the app and choose your mode…no confusing menus or navigation; just open, click, and go.

Bumpy Road is an amazing find in the app store; a game with fantastic graphics and great gameplay that will make you come back over and over again. So, what’re you waiting for? I’ve been raving about this game all this time, go out and get Bumpy Road.
